Home & Living

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live where they want, in the home they want and with the people they want. At Hope in Action, we passionately believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live their best life, in the home they want, where they want, and with who they want. We work alongside people to create places to live that have the right balance of support and independence.
Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) means providing support in a person’s home as needed.

What’s SIL?
Supported Independent Living means providing support in a person’s home as needed. It is offered for a range of different housing types and aligns with funding people may receive from various sources, including the NDIS and TAC.
To find out more about NDIS support for specialist disability accommodation, go to the NDIS website.
We provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) so you can get the support you need to live independently. That might be a few hours a day or around the clock – whatever is best for you, it’s your choice, because a good life starts at home.
Where can you access SIL?

Our Individualised Support Arrangements (ISA) provide one-on-one support for people to do whatever it is they want to do.

Every person is different, with different dreams and interests. We provide people with one-to-one support to do whatever it is they want to do.

Whether that’s learning a new skill, cooking at home or busking in the street, our services are flexible and tailored to individual needs.

This support can include:
  • Developing and maintaining skills to become more independent – such as shopping, budgeting, cooking, household tasks, paying bills, using public transport, or problem solving
  • Studying or looking for employment opportunities
  • Personal care needs, such as bathing or dressing
  • Going out in the community, going to the local gym, banks, shops or going to the footy
  • Maintaining and developing friendships and social networks in the local community
  • Going to appointments with doctors, dentists, or community health services

Our respite service offers people a break from the everyday and a chance to recharge in a fully supported environment.

Our Short-Term Accommodation (also known as Respite) gives people a fully supported break. This means families of a person with disability enjoy the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is being well looked after.

Daily tasks – such as meal planning and cooking, personal care (such as showering and dressing) and taking medication – are all looked after by our dedicated team.

Short-Term stays can include:
  • Socialising with others and making new friends
  • Fun local outings, such as going to the beach or a movie
  • Trips to events, such as an AFL game
  • Participating in fun events in the local community
  • Playing sport
  • Relaxing and enjoying great in-home activities, such as watching favourite TV shows, reading books, arts, crafts or playing video games
  • Single-night accommodation or multiple nights
  • Care for children and adults

Funding for respite can be accessed from your NDIS plan.

We partner with developers and specialist disability accommodation (SDA) providers who are specifically committed to improving the lives of people with disability.

At Hope in Action , we are on a mission to advocate for more accessible homes in the areas we deliver services. Because we believe everybody should have the opportunity to experience living in their own place.

To achieve this, we partner with some highly skilled and experienced developers and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers, who are committed to improving the lives of people with disability.

What is SDA?

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) funding is a type of funding offered through the NDIS for housing. SDA housing features accessible designs, supportive technologies and safety measures to enhance independent living. SDA comes in various forms, from group houses to individual apartments, tailored to meet specific needs. SDA eligibility is determined by an assessment of the person’s disability-related housing requirements.

Funding for SDA

You may be able to access funding for SDA through avenues such as the NDIS and TAC. To find out more about NDIS support for SDA, go to the NDIS website.

Individualised Living Options (ILO) allow people to access the support they need, when they need it.

We are passionate about people maintaining their independence, so we support them by providing Individualised Living Options (ILO).

Your support. Your way.
  • ILO allow you to access the support you need, when you need it. You can choose when and how you get the support to maintain your independence. It is a flexible, customised approach to living arrangements, allowing you to design and implement your own living situations.
  • • This will look different for every person, importantly ILO does not cover the cost of your home, it is for support provided in a self-funded home, a rental property or a home shared with other family members.
  • • This option is designed to give you a sense of home and belonging, while building your independence. You decide who you live with and how they, and other supports – including family, friends and other networks – support you.
  • • It may include things such as personal care, skill building or general help with household jobs, such as cooking, cleaning or doing your washing.
  • ILO emphasise building natural support networks, including family and community members, alongside paid supports. This approach promotes independence and adapts to changing needs over time, offering a personalised alternative to traditional supported living options.
  • • Your ILO supports are developed by you, with assistance if you need it.
